Charities Maritime and Aviation Support Program (CMAS)

Program Status

Open to applications.

Description

The Australian Government recognises the important role that charities play in providing essential services to communities, in particular maritime and aviation services.

An effective carbon price has been applied to aviation fuels through an increase in the aviation fuel excise, and to petrol and diesel used for maritime purposes through reductions in Fuel Tax Credits that may be claimed.

The Charities Maritime and Aviation Support Program was introduced in July 2012 to assist eligible charities with maritime and aviation fuel cost increases directly attributable to the effective carbon price.

Charities eligible to apply for assistance under the Charities Maritime and Aviation Support Program are those who are registered as charities and also endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as Deductible Gift Recipients (DGRs).

Assistance is provided to eligible charities that are able to produce evidence of direct expenditure on aviation fuel or fuels used for maritime purposes, for which an effective carbon price has been paid by the organisation.

The Charities Maritime and Aviation Support Program is administered by the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism under the Australian Government’s climate change plan — Securing a Clean Energy Future.

The Program will be delivered by AusIndustry, a division of the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education.
